2010 SUCCESS: We raised a fantastic total of £5,833 in 2010, which was spent on a wide range of resources and activities in school including:- sports week, a whole school maths scheme, a new football kit, canvas prints of the children taken during sports week which are displayed around school, (please pop in and have a look), reading book storage for KS1, pantomime refreshments and subsidy, coaches to Shrewsbury school, maintenance of the adventure trail and sweatshirts for Year 6. Many thanks to all of our volunteers, parents, friends, school teachers and staff. We look forward to organising more fun events and raising more valuable funds for the school in 2011. CHRISTMAS FAIR '10: We made a fantastic profit of £1,070 from the Christmas Fair and would like to thank everyone involved for their support and hard work. All money raised will be used towards buying equipment and resources to enhance the education of all pupils and the facilities of the school. [10-January-11]

Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac: £38.06. A saving of £261.91. This is the Standard Version. Note: Microsoft has announced that the new Office 2011 for Mac will go on sale at the end of this month.

YELLOW MOON CATALOGUES: With Christmas approaching, we will be sending out Yellow Moon catalogues soon. If you would like to make an order, please quote our source code indicated on the front of the catalogue. A percentage of the takings will then go to PaF to raise funds for the school. SECOND HAND UNIFORM: Second hand uniform will be on sale in the school hall at the parents’ evenings on Monday, 18 October and Thursday, 4 November. You can also purchase second-hand uniform on other occasions by asking at the office. They will then put you in touch with a member of PaF who can check what is available.
Thank you to everyone who has donated items of uniform. If anyone still has uniform they would like to donate, please bring it along to the school office, clearly marked in a bag for PaF. All proceeds will go to PaF to raise funds for the school. [9 October 2010]

SUMMER BBQ 2010: Including fund matching by Barclays Bank, we raised a fantastic £4,000 at this year's BBQ, and once again, the fine weather was on our side for a fun event enjoyed by everyone. The BBQ would not have been possible without the fantastic help and support of our volunteers, so we’d like to say a big THANK YOU to all the parents, staff, pupils and friends who gave their time so generously to help make this year’s BBQ a success. Barclays Bank Shrewsbury helped with the fund raising and agreed to match admission ticket sales pound-for-pound up a maximum of £750.

SPORTS WEEK: 14-18 June was Sports Week and the whole school got to try the following sports, many expertly-led by external coaches: basketball, hockey, tennis, skateboarding, karate, STFC football, trampoline, netball, cheerleading, rounders, yoga, golf, cricket, climbing wall, skipping. The children had a wonderful time and got to try out a wide range of sports. [9 July 2010]

SNAKES IN THE CLASS: On Thursday, 22 April, KS1 and KS2 children enjoyed two animal parties hosted by local, reptile and exotic animal expert Simon Airey. Children came face-to-face with a variety of animals, including: scorpion, chinchilla, bullfrog, horned frog, bosc monitor, chameleon, boa snake, milk and king snake, python, pigmy hedgehog, bird-eating spider, tortoise, leopard gecko, bearded dragon, and Chile Rose Tarantula. As you'd expect, the furry chinchilla drew the biggest aahs, although most children were happy to try wearing a snake, bearded dragon or a frog on the head! RADBROOK ROAD TOUCAN CROSSING AND MINI ROUNDABOUT: Shropshire Council is proposing a new toucan crossing and mini roundabout on Radbrook Road and a reduction in the speed limit from 40 mph to 30 mph. See the Cycle Shrewsbury website for more details. [29 April 2010]

AGM: PaF held its AGM on Monday, 15 March, attended by 23 members. Mandy Garner was elected Chair, and Nicola Handbury-Madin and Janet Raisin joined the committee. Fi Whittall stepped down from the position of Chair but remains on the committee. Karen Kudarenko, Janice Curtis and Kathryn Brown also stepped down. Adele Clee and Julia Rowlands stay on as Treasurer and Secretary, respectively. Thanks to everyone who attended. [21-March-10]

USED UNIFORM: Do you have any good quality school uniform you no longer need? If so, please donate it to PaF to help raise funds for the school. This is also a great way of recycling uniform still in good condition. We raised £40 at the Christmas Fair from selling the few items we already had. If you have anything you would like to donate, please bring it along to the school office, clearly marked in a bag for PaF. If you would like to purchase any second hand uniform we will have some on sale at the parents’ evenings on the 25 and 29 March. [9-February-10]

CHRISTMAS FAIR '09: We made a fantastic profit of £1,145 at this year's Christmas Fair and would like to thank everyone involved for their support and hard work. The children were very excited to meet Santa in his grotto and receive a pre-Christmas gift. There was no sign of recession at the Cake Stall, with sales up a 'tasty' 60% - many thanks to all of our cake makers. All money raised will be used towards buying equipment and resources to enhance the education of all pupils and the facilities of the school. [2-January-10]

VIP SWEATSHIRTS: PaF recently contributed £214 for sweatshirts for this year's Year 6 VIPs (Very Important Pupils). VIPs are children who have taken on additional responsibility and commit their time and energies to supporting children and school, with roles such as Playground Pals, Lunch Monitors, Music Monitors, Sports Reps, Eco Reps, Techies & Assembly Monitors and Office Assistants. NEW CAMERAS: PaF recently contributed £439 towards new cameras for the school. [12-October-09]

TALL POET: On Thursday, 17 September, Tall Poet Andrew Fusek Peters, poet and author, spent a full day in school, first in an assembly for 1 hour with the whole school, later in workshops for Year 5 and 6 children. All of the children enjoyed spending time with a real author and many of his books were snapped up and autographed in a sale after school. PaF also contributed £100 towards some of the Tall Poet's books for the school. [12-October-09]

SUMMER BBQ: We raised a fantastic £3,419 at this year's BBQ and the glorious weather helped to make it a fantastic, fun event for the whole family. In addition to food and refreshments, there was a variety of fun activities, including a children's disco, face painting, children's entertainer and many stalls and games. The BBQ would not have been possible without the fantastic help and support of our volunteers, so we’d like to say a big THANK YOU to all the parents, staff, pupils and friends who gave their time so generously to help make this year’s BBQ a success. Special thanks to the Year 6 children who raised a fantastic £171 with various games and stalls. Barclays Bank Shrewsbury helped with the fund raising and agreed to match admission ticket sales pound-for-pound up a maximum of £750. The bank's manager said: "Social events like this are a great way of building relationships within school and the local community, as well as providing funds to benefit the whole school." AGM: PaF held its AGM on Monday, 23 March. Fi Whittall was elected Chair and Karen Kudarenko took over as Vice-chair. Paul Findon and Gail Bywater stepped down from the committee, although both will continue as active volunteers, with Paul continuing to run the website and Yahoo Discussion Group. Julia Rowlands was elected Secretary. After 2 years as Chair, Janice Curtis is taking a well-earned rest but remains on the committee. Thanks to everyone who attended. [27-March-2009]

QUIZ POSTPONED: The Quiz Night, originally planned for Friday, 24 April, has been postponed until Autumn. [27-March-2009]

VODAFONE MAST: Vodafone has lodged an appeal with the Secretary of State in respect of the installation of a 10m mast to support 3 no shrouded antennas and 1 equipment cabinet and associated development at a site near the shopping centre on Bank Farm Road. CHRISTMAS FAIR '08: Thanks to the hard work and efforts of our volunteers, the school staff and everyone else who helped out, we raised a fantastic £850 at this year's Christmas Fair. Santa was as popular as ever, as was the cake stall! Thanks also to everyone who came along and supported us on the night, and thanks for the donations. FANCY DRESS DISCOS: We raised £126 at the recent Fancy Dress Disco and the children had a great time, with dancing and games provided by PJ the Funky DJ. Many thanks to everyone who volunteered to help make this event happen. All of the money raised by PaF is used to benefit the school, and we recently helped purchase new wall maps of the UK and world, which can now be seen on the wall in the playground Quiet Area. VODAFONE PHONE MAST PLAN REFUSED: Vodafone's planning application was refused by Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council Planning Department on 14 October 2008. This is great news and we'd like to thank everyone who voiced their concerns. Click here for more information. [17-October-2008]

VODAFONE PLANS PHONE MAST CLOSE TO OUR SCHOOL: Mobile phone network Vodafone has submitted a planning application to install a 10 metre phone mast less than 100 metres from the school (50 metres from Radbrook Surgery) on the verge of Bank Farm Road between the new puffin crossing and the steps leading to the shoppers’ car park. In addition to the health and safety concerns, there are already 5 phone masts less than 500 metres from the school on Nobold Lane, one of which belongs to Vodafone. Therefore, the PAF Committee believes there can be no justification for another mast, especially one so close to the school, and we are actively opposing Vodafone’s plans. SUMMER BBQ 2008 : We hope you enjoyed the BBQ as much as we did. It really was a great night. We made a fantastic profit of £3,130, which includes a £750 donation by Barclays Bank, part of its pound-pound matching scheme for employees raising money for charity. The Year 6 children raised a fantastic £83 on their five stalls, so well done to them. BBQ BALLOON RACE: Year 4 parent Lyn Andrews, whose balloon traveled approximately 36 miles to Buckley in Flintshire, won this year's Balloon Race. Lyn wins a £20 Cineworld voucher. [31-August-08]

AGM 2008: Many thanks to everyone who attended this year's AGM. We had just enough members present to make the necessary amendments to our constitution, so a big thank you to everyone who came along. [18-April-08]

SPRING FANCY DRESS DISCOS: The discos were thoroughly enjoyed by all of the children. 'PJ The Funky DJ' kept them fully engaged with music, competitions and games. A fantastic profit of £153 was made, which will be used to buy new equipment for the school. [22-February-08]

CHRISTMAS FAIR '07: The Christmas Fair was a great success and we made a fantastic profit of £906 — a great achievement! Many thanks to everyone who helped with the event, to everyone who donated items and to everyone who attended. A good time was had by all and the queue for Santa did eventually melt away, allowing him and his elves to travel back to Lapland in good time. Alex Taylor won the Guess the Baby Competition. Well done, Alex. Mrs Lewellyn won the raffle for the children’s hamper, Mrs Taylor won the adults hamper and Mrs Mooney won the cake. [29-December-07]

NEW FRIENDSHIP BENCH: Bought with funds raised by PaF, a new friendship bench has been installed in the playground, providing a special place where children can go when they need support or someone to talk to. [24-November-07]

FANCY DRESS DISCOS: The children had a great time at the recent Fancy Dress Discos, with PJ the Funky DJ keeping them thoroughly entertained. We raised £190 from this event and would like to say a big THANK YOU to everybody who helped. [15-November-07]

PAF LOGO COMPETITION: The PaF Logo Competition was won by Jack Bywater of class 6L, who wins a £20 Woolworths voucher. Well done, Jack! The runners up were Joshua Findon and Harry Bywater. MARATHON RUN: Congratulations to Helen Roberts who completed the Lake Vyrnwy half marathon (13.1 miles) on Sunday, 9 September. Helen raised £74 and kindly donated it all to PaF. Many thanks to Helen and everyone who sponsored her. [17-September-07]

MEETING REPORT: The PaF Committee Meeting on Wednesday, 12 September at The Inn On The Green was well attended and very productive. Plans are now underway for the KS1 and KS2 Fancy Dress Discos in November and the Christmas Fair in December. Discussions were lively and fun and we even managed to finish on time at 9.15 p.m. Thanks to everyone who came. [17-September-07]

BALLOON RACE WINNER: The winner of this year's BBQ Balloon Race was David Sudlow, whose balloon travelled approximately 100 miles to Yaxley near Peterborough. David wins a £20 Cineworld voucher. [19-July-07]

SUMMER BBQ SUCCESS: This year's Summer BBQ was a great success and initial indications are that we made an incredible profit of around £3,000! Some of this money has already been earmarked to buy new books for the school’s library, something that will benefit all of the school’s pupils. The new books are to be bought over the summer holidays and will be in place for the start of the autumn term in September. Of course, the BBQ would not have been possible without the fantastic help and support of our volunteers, so we’d like to say a big THANK YOU to all the parents, staff, pupils and friends who gave their time so generously.
